A strong defensive effort and a big game from Rex Blue were the right combination for the Dawson Springs Panthers to pick up their third straight win Saturday at the Commonwealth Rolled Products Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Blue hit for 20 points as the Panthers rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 44-35 win over McLean County.
The game was tied 10-10 after the opening quarter. The Panthers then limited the Cougars to just two field goals in the second quarter as they took a 23-16 lead at the half.
Jax Lee sparked a third quarter rally for McLean County as the Cougars came charging back to go up 31-28 heading into the final quarter. The McLean County defense returned the favor to the Panthers limiting them to just two field goals in the third.
Dawson Springs got back to the lead and then sealed the win at the line in the fourth. The Panthers knocked down 12 of 14 free throws to secure the win. The Panther defense again was stout over the final eight minutes, allowing McLean County just one field goal and two free throws.
In addition to Rex Blue’s 20 points, Deacon Dever had 9 points and Montgomery Johnston added 8 for Dawson Springs.
Jaelin Groves led the Cougars with 12 points. Jax Lee finished with 8.
