A strong defensive performance in the second half and the usual big game from leading scorer Jason Leek helped the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors put an end to their four-game losing skid Monday afternoon.
Leek scored 30 points and the Warriors held Crittenden County to just 12 points in the second half as HCA rolled past the Rockets 58-36 in the 7th place game of the St. Mary Christmas Classic.
The two teams played a tight first quarter with the Rockets leading 14-12 after one. The lead was still two at the break with Crittenden County taking a 26-24 lead into the half. Then, things came undone for the Rockets.
Coming out of the break, HCA went on a 12-2 run to take a 36-28 lead. The Warriors closed out the quarter with an 8-2 spurt and the Heritage Christian lead was 44-30 heading into the final quarter.
Another run, this one 8-0 midway through the 4th quarter put the game away for the Warriors.
Jason Leek led HCA with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Ethan Miles reached double figures with 11 points. Cooper Kirkman had just two points but pulled down 10 rebounds for the Warriors.
HCA (2-7) will be back in action Friday against Caldwell County in the Western Kentucky Hoops Classic.
