Michael Fraliex has to feel like Forrest Gump sometimes when he looks at the play of his Trigg County basketball team. The Wildcats have been like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.
Trigg County lost its fourth straight game on Saturday, falling to Christian Fellowship 77-66.
Elijah Grigg scored 13 first-quarter points as CFS turned a 6-0 deficit into a 17-6 lead the Eagles wouldn’t relinquish.
Grigg entered the contest scoring 21 points per game and has scored over 2,100 points in his CFS career.
Christian Fellowship extended its lead to 41-23 at halftime as Jakin Burnett hit a trio of 3-pointers.
Davaree Gude and Landon Swann each scored 10 points in the fourth quarter for Trigg County as the Wildcats tried to mount a comeback. However, Grigg hit 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter, finishing with a game-high 33 points.
Daxton Kite added 17 points for the Eagles, who improved to 9-13.
Gude finished with 26 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats.
The win by Christian Fellowship was the first for the small Marshall County private school over Trigg County in 14 meetings and was another parlay of Trigg’s troubles against smaller schools this season.
Trigg County entered the season 25-0 all-time against Christian Fellowship, Community Christian, and Heritage Christian Academy, but have lost to each school in the past month.
The Wildcats are 4-6 against non-district schools with a smaller enrollment this season.
However, the schedule offers Trigg a bit of an advantage over the final three weeks of the regular season. The Wildcats will play at Union County on Tuesday – Trigg’s final true road game of the regular season.
Trigg County will close with six straight home games including a Feb. 17 rematch with Christian Fellowship.
