The Trigg County Lady Wildcats used an early blitz to jump ahead of Dawson Springs and cruise to a 69-30 win on Thursday at Wildcat Gym.
The win was Trigg’s 10 straight over the Lady Panthers dating back to 2017.
Briley Sawyer knocked down a 3-pointer 43 seconds into the game to give the Lady Panthers the early lead, but Trigg answered with the next 21 points as Dawson Springs endured a 13:48 stretch without a field goal.
Trigg hit 10 of 20 shots in the first quarter and scored 17 points off 14 Dawson Springs turnovers in building a 25-5 lead.
The Lady Wildcats ballooned the lead to 39-5 before Swayer hit a free throw with 1:59 left in the half. Baylee Swatzell ended the field goal drought with a pair of buckets in the final 90 seconds as the Lady Panthers drew to within 43-10 at intermission.
With a running clock in the second half, Dawson Springs would get no closer than 31 points.
Trigg County hit 51% from the field, including 8 of 15 behind the 3-point arc. Reese Bush hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points. She was one of three Lady Wildcats to score in double figures. Veyda Grinols scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and came up with five steals. Alivia Norwood added 13 points.
Trigg County outscored Dawson Springs 36-8 in the paint and turned 30 Lady Panther turnovers into 34 points.
The Lady Panthers were without point guard Hailey Oldham, who has missed seven of Dawson Springs’ last eight games with a leg injury. She is the team’s second-leading scorer and shoots 68 percent at the free throw line.
Sawyer finished with three 3-pointers and led the Lady Panthers with 11 points. Baylee Swatzell scored six points and grabbed six rebounds.
Dawson Springs will travel to Todd County Central on Monday and then close out the regular season with home games against Apollo (Feb. 18) and St. Mary (Feb. 20).
Trigg County also has three games left in the regular season. They will play at Livingston Central on Friday. A Trigg win gives them the No. 3 seed in the district tournament, while a loss means a tie-breaker will be used for seeding purposes.
Trigg will host Christian Fellowship for Senior Night on Monday and will play at Graves County next Friday.
