
In addition to being the state’s leading scorer, Heritage Christian Academy’s Jason Leek can be clutch as well. Leek banked in a 35-foot shot at the horn that gave the Warriors a 40-38 road win at Community Christian Friday night.
Leek’s shot came after it appeared the Community Christian might have the win in hand with a free throw with .9 seconds to go that made it 38-37.
The Warriors threw the ball to mid-court and took an immediate timeout with .6 seconds to go. HCA inbounded the ball to Leek, who immediately launched the shot and banked it in, setting off a wild celebration among the Heritage players and the HCA fans in attendance.
Community Christian had slowed the pace of the game down throughout the night.
Community led 14-13 after one. The Warriors battled back to tie it at 21-21 at the half.
HCA held a 34-31 lead going into the final quarter.
Community Christian held Jason Leek well below his season average with 18 points. Nathan Wheatcraft also hit double figures with 11 points, including three shots from behind the arc. Cooper Kirkman just missed double figures with 9.
Ahmed Dee was the top scorer for Community Christian with 20.
Heritage Christian ends the regular season at 10-17. The Warriors open district tournament play Monday night against the Fort Campbell Falcons at 5:30 at Hopkinsville High School.
