Lady Maroons Walk Off Win over Caldwell in 8th Inning

Caldwell County’s girls erased a 5-1 deficit and sent the game to extra innings tied 5-5.

But Madisonville-North Hopkins walked off a 6-5 victory in the bottom of the eighth inning in action Thursday in Madisonville.

With the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth inning, Madisonville pitcher Sadie Kirk struck out the side in the top half of the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Mackenzie Stoltz was placed at second base to start the frame. She was bunted to third by Sydney Skeen. Maggie Killough then singled into centerfield to bring in the game-ending run.

Kirk finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, in addition to picking up the win in the pitching circle.

Killough went 2-for-4 and drove in three. Stoltz was 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.
Kirk struck out 15 and did not walk a batter while allowing five earned runs on seven base hits.

Alexis Wood took the loss for Caldwell. She allowed two earned runs on six base hits while fanning five and walking one.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers slammed three home runs.

Brylee Butts was 2-for-4 with a homer, double and three runs batted in. Adley Lewis was 2-for-4 with a home run and Harper Holeman was 1-for-4 with a homer.

The Lady Maroons scored twice in the first inning and three times in the third to go up 5-1.

The Lady Tigers scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to tie the game.

Madisonville is now 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the district.

Caldwell is 1-4 and 1-1.

Wins over Madisonville have been rare for Caldwell, although the Lady Tigers did claim a 9-6 victory last year in Princeton.

However, the Lady Maroons have won 40 of the last 42 meetings and hold a 49-19 advantage all-time.

Caldwell will see more district action on Friday when it hosts Dawson Springs.

Madisonville will entertain Christian County on Friday.
