
A rash of extra base hits early in the game turned out to be more than the Todd County Central Lady Rebels could overcome Wednesday night. The Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats scored nine runs in their first two at-bats and then rolled on to a 19-1 four-inning win in the 13th District contest.
Franklin-Simpson parlayed back-to-back doubles into a four-run inning in the first to take the early 4-0 lead. Two triples in three at-bats in the second opened the door for the Lady Wildcats to push across five more runs in the second inning and extend the lead out to 9-0.
Meanwhile, 7th grader Hester Blanckenberg was rolling on the mound for Franklin-Simpson. Blanckenberg limited the Lady Rebels to just one hit over the first two innings as the Lady Wildcats were building the big lead.
Franklin-Simpson kept the pressure up as the third inning got started. The Lady Wildcats strung together two RBI singles and an RBI double, scoring four more runs and running the lead out to 13-0 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Todd County Central got on the board in the bottom of the inning. After singles from Maddison Wade and Abby Craig, Ella Hall drove in a run with an infield single, trimming the lead to 13-1 after three.
The Lady Wildcats came out in the top of the 4th and set their sights on putting the game away. The first six batters all reached base, capped off by a three-run blast to center by Lilly Ferguson that ripped the game wide open at 19-1.
Maddison Wade led the Lady Rebels with a 2-2 performance at the plate. Ella Hall, Abby Craig, and Dakotah Gammon added one hit each.
Blanckenberg ended up giving up just the one run on five hits, striking out two and walking none for the Lady Wildcats.
For the game, Franklin-Simpson outhit the Lady Rebels 16 to 5.
