Since the soccer regions were expanded in 2012 to align closer to basketball and baseball, Henderson County has never lost a first-round match at the region tournament.
The Colonels ran that streak to 14 on Tuesday with an 8-0 win over Lyon County in the quarterfinals in Henderson.
Alex Bowley came into the match with more than half (22) of Henderson’s goals this season and added three more on Tuesday.
Two of the goals ended the first half and gave the Colonels a 4-0 lead at the break.
Warren Grove headed home a corner kick from Zehn Hazelwood eight minutes into the match to begin the scoring for the Colonels. It was Henderson’s only corner kick in six tries.
Miles Pryor added to the Henderson lead with a penalty kick in the 15th minute that came after a Lyon County foul in the box.
Hazelwood began the second half scoring in the 52nd minute when Grove fed Hazelwood for his fourth goal of the season.
Bowley completed his hat trick two minutes later, and Reid Campbell and Hazelwood closed out the match with goals to end the match via the mercy rule with 9:07 left.
Henderson County held a 29-2 shot advantage, with Lyon County goalie Will Dunning registering 12 saves.
The Colonels extended their winning streak over the Lyons (2-18) to 10 games dating back to 2004. Six of the wins have come in the region tournament.
