Apollo Hands Hoptown Girls Third-Straight Defeat

In a battle between two teams looking for their first wins of the season on Tuesday, Apollo outlasted the host Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 62-53 behind 24 points from the E-gals’ Emersyn Bullington.

Kaveyah White scored five first-quarter points for the Lady Tigers, but Bullington poured in 10 to give Apollo a narrow 16-14 advantage.

Mattingly Taylor picked up the scoring slack for the E-gals in the second frame with five points, and they led 30-24 at the halftime break.

Hopkinsville held a 12-10 scoring advantage in the third quarter to cut the margin to four points, but Bullington scored eight and Apollo’s Maleah Potter added six to foil the Lady Tigers’ comeback bid.

Lealah Watkins had five in the fourth to finish with a team-high 12 for the Lady Tigers, and Serenity Ewing just missed double figures with nine.

Apollo improved to 1-3, with Mattingly Taylor joining Bullington in double figures with 11 for the E-gals.

Hoptown slipped to 0-3 with a quick turnaround on the road at Fort Campbell on Wednesday. The Lady Tigers have not lost in the series with the Lady Falcons since 2005.
