Caldwell Sees 4th Quarter Lead Slip Away at Muhlenberg

Caldwell County overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half and led by five points in the second half at Muhlenberg County Saturday night.

However, the host Mustangs recovered to take a 75-71 decision over the Tigers.

Muhlenberg (11-7) got to halftime with a 38-30 advantage.

However, Caldwell (6-8) flipped the momentum with a big third quarter. The Tigers outscored the Mustangs 27-15 in the frame to go in front 57-53 entering the final stanza.

But the Tigers couldn’t hang on at the 3rd Region school.

Muhlenberg used a 22-14 advantage in the fourth quarter to capture the win.

The Mustangs’ Kason Morris hit five of six free throws in the last 22 seconds to help the hosts fend off the Tigers.

Morris netted 10 of his team-high 19 points in the final frame.

The Mustangs also got 18 points apiece from Gavin Groves and Isaac Coats.

Caldwell got 29 points from Daelyn Lander and 20 from Pax Aikins. Jack Roach added 10 points.

Down 70-68, the Tigers got a look at a go-ahead 3-pointer with 35 seconds to play but could not convert.

Muhlenberg edged ahead in the all-time series 4-3.

Caldwell will play at home on Tuesday when it hosts Dawson Springs as part of a girls and boys 7th District doubleheader.
