Avah Miller’s first trip to the KHSAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament saw the Christian County sophomore finish in fourth place.
Miller had to wrestle in six matches on Saturday at Alltech Arena in Lexington, and her two losses were to Bell County’s McKenzie Webb.
After a first-round pin of Fern Creek’s Divine Mujanukaire, Miller and Webb met in the second round, where their match went to a third sudden-death overtime period. Webb scored a single point to advance.
Miller battled back to win three straight matches over Whitley County’s Trinity Hopkins (second round pin), John Hardin’s Kaulana Kuiee (17-1), and Campbell County’s McAyla Steffen (6-3).
Miller and Webb met again in the third-place match, with Webb getting the advantage early and taking a 14-5 lead. In the final seconds, Miller was close to pinning Webb, but the clock ran out, giving Webb the 14-8 win.
Miller’s season ends with a 30-7 record and the first state tournament medal for a Christian County girls’ wrestler.
