
For the second time in as many days, the University Heights Academy have knocked off a ranked team out of Lexington. The latest win came Sunday as the Blazers outscored Frederick Douglass, who was ranked #11 by PrepBaseball.Com, 12-10 in Somerset.
The win comes on the heel of Saturday’s 8-7 win over Sayre, who PrepBaseball.Com ranked # 4 in its preseason rankings.
Sunday, the Blazers rallied not once but twice to get the win over the Broncos.
Frederick Douglass scored in each of its first three at-bats to take a 7-0 lead after three.
UHA battled back with six runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 7-6. The big hits in the inning were a 2-run double from Thomas Hallmark and a 3-run double from AJ Hogart.
After the Broncos scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Blazers got to the lead with four runs in the top of the 6th inning with a pair of bases-loaded walks. The Blazers then added two important insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning.
The Broncos made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th, scoring a pair of runs and loading the bases with two outs. Josh Pace shut down the rally by getting a strikeout to end the game.
UHA (6-1) was led by AJ Hogart, who was 1-3 with 4 RBIs and a run scored. Hayden Hunt was 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Thomas Hallmark ended the game 1-2 with two RBIs.
On the mound, Josh Pace went the final 2 ⅔ innings to get the win. He gave up two runs on one hit, striking out four, and walking two.
