Just 24 hours after they were rocked in their first loss to their cross-county rivals in nearly 14 years, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons rebounded with a solid win on their home field. Sadie Kirk pitched a complete game two-hitter as the Lady Maroons upended McCracken County 3-1.
The win ended a three-game losing skid for the Lady Maroons and avenged a season-opening 5-4 road loss to the Lady Mustangs.
Kirk not only was outstanding in the circle, she drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer that put the Lady Maroons up 2-0.
McCracken County used a Madisonville error to trim the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning.
The Lady Maroons got the run back in the bottom half of the inning, thanks in large part to a walk and a Lady Mustang error.
Sadie Kirk was then able to work out of jams in the top of the sixth and the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Kirk was 2-2 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Aubrey Guill finished 2-3. Sydney Skeen ended up 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the circle, Sadie Kirk gave up one unearned run on just two hits in her seven innings of work. She struck out nine and walked four.
