Going into Thursday night’s game, the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm had not beaten their cross county rivals in nearly 14 years. That little bit of history is now out the window.

The Lady Storm got a big game in the circle from 8th grader Layla Sorrells and senior Reese Renth as Hopkins County Central rocked the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons 4-2 in Mortons Gap.

The win was the first for the Lady Storm in the series since the 2012 7th District championship game.

Central got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Addison Blanchard drove in a run with a two-out double and the Lady Storm followed that up with a run off a Lady Maroon error.

Sadie Kirk scored on an error in the top of the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Madisonville then pulled even in the top of the fourth on a triple from Aubrey Guill, who scored on the throw to make it 2-2.

The Lady Storm took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Reese Renth doubled in a run and then later scored on a base hit from Emily Ballard.
