Christian County ran into a buzzsaw in visiting South Warren on Friday night, with the Spartans extending their winning streak to five games with a 13-5 victory.
The Colonels got off to a strong start in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI single by Layton Creamer and a two-run double from Gavin Mitchell, but runs would be hard to come by for the rest of the night. South Warren answered with four runs in the 2nd, capped by Alex Miller’s RBI single, to take the lead for good.
Miller struck again with an RBI single in the 4th, and Camden Page followed with a run-scoring double to put the Spartans in front 8-4. South Warren’s Kayden Perry smacked a triple with the bases loaded to make it 13-4 in the top of the 7th, and Preston Stokes’ RBI single was too little, too late for the Colonels in their final at-bat.
Eddie Davis took the loss on the mound for the Colonels, allowing five runs, only one earned, on five hits with a walk in three innings of work. Joshua Embrey came on in relief, giving up eight runs, three earned, on 11 hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.
Mitchell led the Colonels at the plate with two hits and two RBI.
South Warren improved to 16-8 behind three RBI each from Perry and Tucker Sears. Dylan Marr also had three hits for the Spartans.
Christian County slipped to 14-13 with its second-straight defeat. The Colonels will travel to Scott County on Saturday to face the host Cardinals and Grant County in the Dan Cummins Invitational Slugfest.
