Lyon County competed at the Area 1 Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Calloway County High School.
Ethan Gossard and Lucas Poague both recorded personal-best performances for their distance events.
Gossard placed 23rd in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.21 and later finished 14th in the 3200-meter run with a personal-best time of 12:28.45. Poague was 38th in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:50.39 and took 19th in the 3200 meters with another personal-best mark of 15:07.72.
In field events, seventh-grader Jacob Townsend competed in three events for the team. Townsend finished 39th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:30.23, placed 31st in the discus throw with a toss of 37 feet, 4 inches, and came in 35th in the shot put at 16 feet, 2 inches.
Joseph Kingston finished in third place in the boys’ unified shot put competition with a throw of 32 feet, 7 inches.
