Fans of high school football and girls soccer in Tennessee may get a better idea of where things are going in the state Wednesday. According to a report in the Tennessean, the TSSAA has added contigency plans for those two sports on the agenda for its Board of Control meeting.
The report notes that TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress has stated that football and girls soccer were the primary reasons that contingency plans were placed on the agenda for the meeting.
The football regular season in Tennessee had originally been set to start August 21st, with girls soccer set to begin days earlier on August 17. However, those dates were put at serious risk when Governor Bill Lee extended an emergency order through August 29. The report from The Tennessean goes on to say that the TSSAA has been attempting to work with the Governor’s office to get their seasons started on time.
As for the contingency plans, Tennessee football is looking at:
A 9 game regular season. Region champs make playoffs.
An 8 game regular season. Region winner and runner-up make playoffs.
A 7 game regular season. Full playoff schedule.
A hybrid schedule with week to week options.
As for girls soccer in Tennessee, the contingency plans include:
Delaying playoffs two weeks.
Starting playoffs on time and shortening regular season.
The report notes that the girls soccer season would start in September under either of the options.
