Cold Shooting Lady Wildcats See Season End at Hands of Livingston Central

The Trigg County Lady Wildcats began its three-year district championship run on Livingston Central’s home floor four years ago. The final players who enjoyed the three-peat saw their careers end on the same floor Monday.

The Lady Wildcats were unable to overcome a frigid shooting night and lost to Livingston Central 42-26 in the district tournament semifinals.

Trigg County missed 18 of its first 21 shots and hit just 23-percent from the field.

In the Lady Wildcats’ 37-35 win over Livingston earlier this month, Trigg attempted just nine 3-point shots and broke down the Lady Cardinal defense. They had no such luck Monday as Livingston’s man-to-man defense flustered the Lady Wildcats all night.

Trigg hit just 3-of-20 behind the arc and missed seven of its 10 free throw attempts.

The stat sheet was even except for shooting. Livingston made three more field goals and nine more free throws.

Livingston jumped ahead 12-4 in the first frame.

The second quarter featured a 3-pointer by Victoria Joiner and a putback by Olivia Noffsinger. That was it. Livingston carried a 15-6 lead into halftime and left the Lady Wildcats feeling fortunate to be trailing by only nine after shooting just 3-of-21 from the field.

Joiner began the second half with a 3-pointer to push the Lady Cardinal lead to 12 points. The sophomore scored six more points in the quarter as the Lady Cardinals led 28-17 heading into the final eight minutes. That was as close as Trigg would get.

Joiner led Livingston Central with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Emersyn Ramage added six points and eight rebounds as the Lady Cardinals return to the district title game for the second time in three years. Livingston will play Crittenden County in Thursday’s district title game.

For Trigg County, four seniors who were a part of the program’s resurgence saw their careers end Monday. Olivia Noffsinger scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Kara Hyde added 10 points. Those two, along with Tajah Grubbs and Audrey Alexander were a part of three straight district titles for Trigg County.
