Hopkins County Central moved back over .500 with a 12-2 victory over visiting Fort Campbell on Friday. The Storm improved to 8-7 with its second win in three outings ahead of a trip to Union County on Monday.
Neilan Bruce smacked a home run to right field to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning to give the Storm a lead they would never relinquish. Brody Smith added an RBI single and Peyton James doubled in a run for an early 3-0 advantage.
Fort Campbell’s Joseph Katz drove in a run with a single to cap a two-run second inning, but that would be the last time the Falcons crossed the plate.
It was all Storm the rest of the way, with Smith finishing with three hits and three RBI and Bruce adding a pair of hits and driving in three runs. James had a hit and drove in two, and Daniel Brody and Sawyer Ipox each had a hit.
James also earned the win on the mound, giving up two earned runs on three hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. Ipox worked three scoreless innings in relief, allowing a single hit with three strikeouts.
Cohen Brunner took the loss for the Falcons, surrendering nine runs, five earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Michael Anderson, Gavin Haler, Javi Ramirez, and Katz each had a hit.
Fort Campbell slipped to 0-12 with a trip to Hopkinsville to face Heritage Christian Academy coming up on Monday. The Falcons fell 10-0 to the Warriors in last season’s 8th-District tournament, ending a five game winning streak in the series.
