Balanced Effort Sends Lady Lyons to District Title Game

5-21-collins

Livingston Central softball coach Eric Wring was content to not let Lyon County’s Calista Collins beat him single-handedly.  Collins was walked intentionally three times in Lyon’s 6-2 win over the Lady Cardinals Monday in the Fifth District semifinals.

Collins drove in six runs in Lyon County’s 12-0 win last week, and Wring was not going to let that happen again by issuing the free passes.

Lyon proved they are not a one-woman show as Tori Schenk and Kaelyn Conger each had three hits, with Conger adding two RBIs.  Gracen Wynn also chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs driven in as Lyon County banged out 12 hits.

Conger gave Lyon County the early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI double.  The Lady Lyons tacked on four runs in the third when Conger and Nelli Walker added RBI singles and Wynn drove in two more with a single to left.

The one time Collins actually saw pitches was in the sixth inning with the bases loaded when she lifted a sacrifice fly to right.

Livingston Central (14-11) got two runs back in the seventh inning when Calista Jennings doubled home a pair of runs, but Allye Culp got a strikeout to end the game.

Culp continued her mastery of Livingston Central this season, allowing five hits and striking out six in the win.  She is 2-0 against the Lady Cardinals this year with a 1.48 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Lyon County (23-12) will play Trigg County Tuesday night for the district title.
