For the UHA Lady Blazers, Monday night would have been much better if it had been an “even” night. The Lady Blazers played the Russellville Lady Panthers pretty close to even in the 2nd and 4th quarters, it was just those doggone “odd” quarters that were the problem.

Russellville closed out the first quarter on a 12-0 run and then opened the 3rd quarter on a 15-1 run as they rolled past the Lady Blazers 60-29 in Blazer Gym.

Russellville was leading 5-2 when they ripped off the first run to take a 17-2 lead after one. That run would end up stretching out to 14-0 as the Lady Panthers scored the first two points of the second quarter.

For the rest of the second quarter, the Lady Blazers would hang around with Russellville. The Lady Panthers would outscore UHA only 13-11 for the rest of the half as the lead was at 32-13 going into the break.

Behind the play of Anastasia Dowlen, Russellville delivered the knockout blow coming out of the locker room to start the second half. Dowlen, who caused UHA problems with her size all night long, scored 10 points in the third as the Lady Panthers ran out to the 47-19 lead.

Much like the second quarter, the Lady Blazers played even with the Lady Panthers over the final eight minutes as Russellville closed out the 31-point win.

Amaryia Bass led the way for UHA with 8 points. Alecia Davis had 7 points on the night. Breanna Daniel finished with six points.

Russellville’s Anastasia Dowlen led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Lareesha Cawthorne added 16 points for the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Blazers struggled from the field, connecting on just 11 of 51. They were 2 of 18 from behind the 3-point line. Russellville dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lady Blazers 56-28.

The Lady Blazers were forced into 24 turnovers by the Russellville fullcourt and half court pressure defense.

UHA drops to 0-3 on the season, while Russellville moves to 2-0.
