Heritage Christian Academy and visiting Lakeshore Christian waged a contentious battle on Saturday, with the Warriors pulling away for a 42-33 Senior Day victory.
A 1st-quarter ejection and physical play throughout kept the score low and the fouls high, but the Warriors got 11 points from Carlos Robles and 10 for senior Triston Folz to improve to 16-9 overall.
The Warriors won another low-scoring battle over the Falcons earlier this season in the KCAA Tip-Off Classic, and it was clear early on Saturday’s matchup would follow the same path.
The Warriors led 4-2 before a scrum led to an ejection on their side and the resulting free throws gave Lakeside a one-point advantage. Jonah Hill scored five points for Lakeside, but the Warriors were back in front after Trevor Gibson closed the 1st quarter with a pair of free throws for a 6-5 lead.
HCA took a five-point advantage after an and-1 by Folz, and the Warriors led 17-12 at the halftime break.
Carlos Robles scored four in the 3rd, and Zane Yates followed his layup with a 3-pointer to give the Warriors their biggest cushion at 27-18. Bryce Tackett scored and was fouled in the final minute for Lakeside, but he missed the free throw, and the margin was seven with a quarter to play.
The Falcons were within four three times in the 4th, but HCA found some breathing room at 37-29 after Yates’ second 3 of the game. Lakeside’s Tackett scored on a drive to trim it to five, but Jason Leek was 4/4 from the line in the last minute to seal the Warrior victory.
Heritage Christian returns to the court on Monday when they travel to face Legacy.
