Hopkins Central Breezes Past Lady Blazers

The Hopkins County Central Lady Storm now have their highest win total since the 2015-2016 season. The Lady Storm rang up 42 points in the first half Tuesday night as they rolled past the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers 68-36 at Blazer Gym.

The win for Central was their 15th of the season, the most since the Lady Storm went 18-15 in 2015-2016.

The Lady Blazers put up a strong effort in the first quarter, trailing only 16-14 after the first eight minutes of the game. Then came the second quarter.

The Hopkins Central defense limited the Lady Blazers to just six points in the quarter, while their offense was in high gear at the other end. Mercy Sutton and Emile Jones combined for 14 points in the quarter to spark the Central offense. By the end of the quarter, the lead was at 42-20.

Jones and Sutton kept rolling as the second half got underway. The Central defense again held the Lady Blazers to six points as the lead grew to 63-26 and brought the running clock into play.

Mercy Sutton led the Lady Storm with 15 points. Emile Jones chipped in with 13. Brooklyn Clark hit double figures with 12.

Alecia Davis was the only Lady Blazer to reach double figures with 11 points. Breanna Daniel added six points for University Heights.

The loss drops UHA to 3-15 on the season, while Hopkins Central improves to 15-4.
