The Lyon County Lady Lyons now know the teams they will face on the opening day of the All A Classic state softball tournament. The Lady Lyons earned their way to defending their state championship with a win over Caldwell County Tuesday night in the 2nd Region championship game at Smithland.
The Lady Lyons will open play Saturday, April 30, at 10:00am when they take on Louisville Holy Cross. Holy Cross is currently 4-3 and has only played one game in the month of April. The Lady Cougars’ losses have come to Marion County, Central Hardin, and Elizabethtown. Lyon County was also in the same pool with Holy Cross last season, and came away with a 16-4 win.
Lyon County will return to the field that afternoon at 1:30pm as they take on Highlands Latin. The Lady Highlanders are currently 4-5 on the season. Their losses have come to Atherton, North Hardin, John Hardin, Thomas Nelson, and Fairdale.
The Lady Lyons will then wrap up pool play on that Saturday as they take on Bracken County at 5:00pm. The Lady Bears are currently 7-4. Their losses have come to Bath County, Harrison County, Lewis County, and Scott.
The winner and runner-up in the pool will advance to the single-elimination championship bracket, which begins play Sunday morning, May 1.
The tournament is being played at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro.
