Eighth-grade workhorse Anna Boone went the distance and logged her 85th inning in the circle this season, leading the Crittenden County High School softball squad to a 7-4 district win Thursday at Trigg County.

Boone (6-8), who took a five-run lead into the fifth inning, surrendered a two-out, two-run double to Lillie Cortner, and an RBI single by Livia Breckel that pulled the Wildcats within 6-4 of the visiting Rockets, but got Brynlee Smock to line out to left to end the threat, and cruised the rest of the way to give CCHS the victory.

Crittenden took the lead for good on Andrea Federico’s RBI single in the first inning. The Rockets went up 3-0 in the third on Hadlee Rich’s two-run single and extended their advantage to 6-1 after a two-out single from Elle McDaniel brought home Federico.

Trigg County would fight back, though, when Kiley Slone walked and Rylee Hendricks singled to start the rally attempt in the fifth. After Cortner and Breckel delivered their aforementioned clutch hits, however, Boone sat down the final seven Wildcat batters in order, sending TCHS to its fourth straight loss.

Wildcats starting pitcher Avery Wade (6-8) did allow 13 hits but only surrendered three earned runs. A trio of costly Trigg errors led to four unearned runs scored. Wade also walked none and struck out a pair, raising her season total to 77 K’s.

Breckel, Rylee Hendricks and MaKenna Hendricks each had two hits in the loss, accounting for six of Trigg’s eight base hits. Breckel and MaKenna each stole bases, as well. Smock had the other Wildcat hit, a second-inning double.

Federico finished 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Rockets (7-11, 1-2), who have now won two straight. It was also their first district win of 2022.

Trigg County (6-9, 0-2) will try to snap its slide when the ‘Cats travel to Livingston Central Friday for another 5th District tilt.
