With the consolidation of Christian County High School and Hopkinsville just around the corner, Autumn Bell wanted to make sure her name was etched in the Christian County record book for perpetuity.

The just-graduated Bell reached the medal podium three times Saturday at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky.

One of the medals was a gold one in the triple jump.  Already the school record holder in the event, Bell shattered her own mark by a foot with a jump of 37-feet, 6.75-inches.

In winning the state championship, Bell became Christian County’s 15th individual state champion and the first since Derrica Jones won the discus throw in 2002. Including Bell, only three of the 15 individual state titles have come since 1983.

Bell ends her career with the four best triple jumps in school history.

She also finished seventh in the long jump, an event she didn’t have on her resume earlier in the year. She dropped the 400-meter run and moved back into the long jump with her Saturday jump of 16-feet, 6.25 inches the second-best in school history, and just a quarter-inch off Martessia Williams’ school record set a decade ago.

Bell’s busy day also included a pair of sprint events. She finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.97 seconds. That’s the fourth-fastest in school history and the fastest since Tameka Alexander set the school record at the 2015 region tournament at 25.06 seconds.

Bell finished 10th in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best time of 12.85 seconds.

After losing her sophomore season on the track due to COVID-19, it marks the second straight year Bell reached the medal podium at the state meet. She finished seventh in the triple jump in 2021.
