With his junior season coming up in the spring, Heritage Christian Academy’s J.J. Thompson has selected the college where he will continue both his athletic career and his college education. In a social media post on Sunday, Thompson announced that he was committing to Wright State University.

Wright State, an NCAA Division I school, is located in Dayton, Ohio, and is a member of the Horizon League.

Thompson has played a significant role in helping to lead the HCA Warriors to back-to-back KCAA state baseball championships. In 2021, he gave up one hit in the championship game, and this year in the Warriors’ 10-2 win over Cornerstone for the title, Thompson went six innings and gave up again only one hit, this one coming in the first inning.

Thompson was named to both the KCAA All-State Team and the all-tournament team in 2022. He batted .649 with two home runs and 16 RBIs. 26 of his 48 hits went for extra bases including 13 triples.  He scored 51 runs in 27 games and stole 42 bases in 43 attempts.

Thompson recently was a member of the Kentucky 16U team at the PBR Futures Game in Georgia.
