Madisonville Runners, Coach Earn Area 1 Cross Country Honors

Four members of the Madisonville-North Hopkins boys’ cross country team have earned Area 1 honors following the 2022 cross country season.

Drew Burden was named the Area 1 runner of the year, which encompasses all three classes. He was also named the Class 3A runner of the year.

Burden had three invitational wins and three runner-up finishes, including a second-place finish at the region meet. He finished in 26th place at a loaded class 3A State Meet. At the Daviess County Classic on October 8, Burden ran a personal best time of 15:49.

Dakota Evans, a freshman, had six finishes inside the top 20. He ran a personal best time of 16:42 at the Daviess County Classic and finished in fourth place at the region meet. He capped his season with a 47th-place finish at the Class 3A State Meet.

Lucas Offutt, a junior, had five top-10 finishes. He ran a personal best time of 16:35 as part of a 15th-place finish at the Daviess County classic. Offutt finished in fifth place at the region meet and was 74th at the state meet.

Maddox Knight, a junior, had three top-10 finishes during the season. His personal best time of 16:38 came at the Daviess County Classic. Knight was 15th at the region meet and knocked 29 seconds off that time of the state meet as part of a 54th-place finish.

Madisonville coach Jeremy Gobin was named the Area 1 coach of the year, which encompasses all classes, and was named the Class 3A coach of the year after guiding Madisonville to a region runner-up finish, and a ninth-place finish at the state meet.
