In racing they call it going wire-to-wire. The Todd County Central Lady Rebels scored the first basket of the game and never trailed the entire evening Friday night as they upended the Logan County Lady Cougars 60-47 in a 13th District contest in Elkton.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for Logan County.

The Lady Rebels came out clicking offensively, especially from behind the three-point line. Todd Central knocked down four threes in the opening eight minutes, two from Abby Williams and one each from Ciara Collins and Alexis Taylor. When the quarter ended the Lady Rebels were holding a 20-9 lead. If not for a good start from Emily Borders, things could have been even worse for the Lady Cougars.

Logan County scored the first six points of the second quarter as they trimmed the lead to 20-15. The Lady Rebels did not appear to have quite the same offensive flow as they did early in the game. That, along with foul problems allowed the Lady Cougars to hang around in the second quarter.

With Jamya Kay getting some key baskets late in the half, the Lady Rebels were able to push the lead back out to nine at the half at 29-20.

Todd County Central opened the second half much like they did the first half. The Lady Rebels hit the Lady Cougars with a 9-2 spurt to start the third and run the lead out to 38-22.

Gracie Borders kept the Lady Cougars within shouting distance in the third, scoring ten points. Logan was able to trim the lead to 47-36 going into the final eight minutes of the game.

The foul problems that plagued the Lady Rebels in the opening half continued in the second half. As the fourth quarter began, Todd Central had seven team fouls to just one for the Lady Cougars.

However, the foul issues would turn out not to be a problem coming down the stretch of the game. Logan County could get no closer than eight points in the fourth quarter as Todd Central held on for the 13 point win. No Todd Central player would end up fouling out of the game.

The Lady Rebels were led by Abby Williams, who finished with 25 points, including four made three-pointers. Alexis Taylor had 19 points and another big night on the glass. Jamya Kay also hit double-figures with 11.

Gracie Borders topped the Lady Cougars’ scoring list with 19 points. TaKyiah Mason added 10 points for Logan County.

With the win, the Lady Rebels up their record on the season to 10-6. They are back in action Monday night when they host Metcalfe County in an opening round game of the Girls’ 4th Region all A Classic.
