It turned out that the Webster County Lady Trojans had a little bit too much of the ‘Wright’ stuff Saturday afternoon. Lady Trojan sophomore Jacie Wright scored 20 points as Webster County ran away from University Heights Academy 58-37 Saturday afternoon in Blazer Gym.
The Lady Blazers and the Lady Trojans went back and forth early in the contest. There were three lead changes and one tie in the first quarter. Webster County managed to score the final four points of the opening quarter and took a 17-11 lead.
With strong 2nd quarter efforts from Alicia Davis and Lee Lee Love, UHA battled back to within 20-18 and appeared to have the momentum flowing in their direction. However, Lee Lee Love then picked up her second foul forcing Coach Derrick Hickman into a big decision. Hickman decided to try and hang with the Lady Trojans and save Love for the second half.
The Lady Trojans took advantage of Love being out of the game and finished the half on a 10-1 run and took a 28-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
Alicia Davis battled to keep the Lady Blazers in the game in the opening half, scoring 11 points. Jacie Wright had a big half for Webster County with ten points.
The momentum of the late first-half run carried over to the start of the second half for Webster County. The Lady Trojans scored the first six points of the second half to run their lead out to 34-19. UHA would trim the lead to 36-25 about midway through the third, then the bottom fell out for the Lady Blazers.
Led by another big effort from Jacie Wright, the Lady Trojans scored the final eight points of the quarter to make it 44-25. Webster turned on a little more gas in their tempo of play and it began to wear on the Lady Blazers, who dressed only six players for the game.
The Lady Blazers continued to struggle to find the basket in the final quarter as Webster County finished things on out to the 21-point win.
Another big game for UHA’s Alicia Davis, who finished with 19 points. Lee Lee Love added 8 points for the Lady Blazers.
In addition to Jacie Wright’s 20 points, Brooke Shepherd had 10 points for Webster County. Karsyn Cates added 9 points.
