The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers very nearly had a perfect weekend in Owensboro. UHA finished 5-1 and claimed the Bronze Bracket championship of the Apollo Summer Slam, which was played Friday night and Saturday.

A tough loss to the host school on Friday night was the only thing that kept the Lady Blazers from a big run through the event.

That loss came in the opener for the Lady Blazers, as UHA matched up against Apollo in their first match of the Summer Slam Friday evening. The E-Gals claimed a tough three-set win, 25-14, 22-25, and 15-5.

The Lady Blazers had another battle in their second match Friday evening. This time the opponent was Bullitt East and this time it was the Lady Blazers that came out on top, winning in three sets 27-26, 17-25, and 15-9.

When play resumed Saturday morning, the Lady Blazers ruled the day, not dropping a set for the rest of their matches in the event.

UHA won their final pool play match over McLean County 25-13 and 25-7. Their 2-1 record put them in the Bronze Bracket.

The Lady Blazers then steamrolled through, Crittenden County, 25-20 and 25-18; Ohio County, 25-10 and 25-18; and North Hardin 25-18 and 25-15 to claim first place in the Bronze Bracket.

The Lady Blazers now stand at 7-1 for the season and will be back in action Tuesday when they travel across North Drive to take on Christian County in a big 8th District battle.
