Alston’s School Record Run Leads Hoptown at Area 1 Championship

The Hopkinsville High School track and field record book has some new entries after Saturday’s Area 1 Championship at Paducah Tilghman.

RUNNING EVENTS

Gavin Alston held off defending Class A state champion Maurice Moore of Fort Campbell to win the 400-meter dash. Alston’s school-record time of 49.47 seconds was .38 seconds ahead of Moore’s time. It also bested Keion Brown’s school record time of 49.51 set at the 2018 state meet.

Alston also notched a personal best in the 200-meter dash where his time of 22.51 seconds was good for fourth place and sixth best in school history.

Ian Rossario swept first place in both hurdle events. He ran a personal-best time to win the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 15.22 seconds was .39 seconds faster than Fort Campbell’s Sam Atoubi and is the second-fastest in school history. Leslie Johnson ran a 14.87 at the 1981 state meet.

He also won the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 41.29 seconds – sixth best in school history.

Tyson Cavinder came in fourth place in the 3200-meter run, clocking a new personal best time of 11:07.23.

Keyshun Teal was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.81 seconds.

Iriel Leak was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 52.30 seconds, a personal best for the senior. He also scored a PR in the 200-meter dash at 23.60 seconds, good for 10th place.

Elijah Reid ran a personal best time in the 100-meter hurdles of 16.97 seconds to finish in eighth place.

Lamareon Jeffers was17th in the 800-meter dash in a season-best time of 2:18.55

James Bradley was 21st in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.73 seconds.

Treston Kay was 22nd in the 100 meters in 11.73 seconds, a personal best for the junior.

RELAYS

The 800-meter relay team of Gavin Alston, Ian Rossario, Treston Kay, and Keyshun Teal ran a season-best time of 1:31.12 to place second. Their time was the third-fastest in school history.

The 400-meter relay team of James Bradley, Elijah Reid, Keyshun Teal, and Treston Kay ran a season-best time of 45.26 seconds to come in fourth place.

The 1600-meter relay team of Gavin Alston, Ian Rossario, Ireal Leak, and Keyshun Teal came in fifth place in 3:42.47.

The 3200-meter relay team of Tyson Cavinder, Jaylon Davis, Lamareon Jeffers, and Jayon Bass came in eighth place with a time of 9:12.31

FIELD EVENTS

Davian Simon was seventh in the discus throw at 123-03.

Treston Kay was ninth in the triple jump at 39-05.

James Bradley cleared 5-2 in the high jump to finish in 16th place.

Alden Marshall threw a season-best in the shot put where he finished in 17th place at 33-06.50.

Devin Coleman was 16th in the discus throw at 107-09 and was 18th in the shot put at 33-04.

As a team, Hopkinsville finished in fifth place with 66 points.
