
The Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs had a little bit of the Christmas spirit Monday evening, and the Christian County Lady Colonels were more than willing to oblige by receiving their gifts graciously. The Lady Colonels scored six unearned runs thanks to five Lady Mustang errors and claimed a 6-4 win on the road.
An Alyssa Petterson double and a Muhlenberg County error set the table for a two-run single off the bat of Jayda Turner as Christian County took a 2-0 lead after half an inning.
The Lady Mustangs got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 2-1.
Another Lady Mustang error opened the door in the top of the third, leading to an RBI single from Jayda Turner, and pushing the lead back out to two runs at 3-1.
Once again, Muhlenberg County came back with a run in the bottom half of the inning, keeping things close at 3-2.
Two Lady Mustang errors to open the top of the fifth inning set the stage for Christian County. After Jayda Turner walked to load the bases, Talyn Ezell drove in a run with a single to center. Chloe Almy scored on a wild pitch and Jayda Turner later scored on another error as the Lady Colonels ran the lead out to 6-2.
Just like the previous two times, Muhlenberg County responded to the Lady Colonels putting runs on the board by hanging one of their own. The problem for the Lady Mustangs was that twice the Lady Colonels had scored more than once.
Muhlenberg County threatened to make it more than interesting in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Mustangs got a two-out single, followed by an RBI double to draw within 6-4. However, Muhlenberg County’s Joshlynn Noe was thrown out trying to reach third base on the hit, ending the game before the potential tying run could pick up the bat and head to the batter’s box.
Jayda Turner with a big game for Christian County, going 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Talyn Ezell and Alyssa Petterson added two hits each.
Petterson went all seven innings in the circle, giving up four runs on ten hits, striking out three, and walking one.
