One thing was for sure going into Monday night’s game between the Dawson Springs Panthers and the Livingston Central Cardinals: one team was going to get its first win of the season. Turned out it was the Cardinals that were able to fly a bit higher on their home field.
The Cardinals scored eight runs over the first two innings without the benefit of a hit as Livingston Central went on to take a 17-2 win in Smithland.
Livingston Central scored four runs in the first and four more in the second thanks to three walks, five hit batters, and three Dawson Springs errors, as the Cardinals got out to the big early lead.
The Panthers cut into the lead in the top of the third on a two-run single with two outs from Colton Grable to make it 8-2.
The Cardinals came back and got their first two hits of the game in the bottom half of the third inning. Livingston Central would go on to score six runs in the inning making it 14-2, again getting help from the Panthers, who gave up three walks, a hit batter, and three errors.
Livingston Central closed out the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the final run coming on an infield single by Avery Zaim, just the Cardinals’ third hit of the game. For the night, Zaim had two of the Cardinals’ three hits and drove in one run. Easton Smith had the other hit and drove in two runs.
Livingston gets its first win of the season, despite the hits being even at three each. The Cardinals were the beneficiaries of seven Dawson Springs errors, seven walks, and 10 hit batters.
