Johnny Lewis provided the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the 5th, and Christian County held visiting Logan County scoreless over the final three frames to claim a 5-3 victory on Tuesday.

The Colonels improved to 10-7 with their third win in a row and handed Logan County its third-straight loss to leave the Cougars at 8-9.

With Christian County trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, Blake Boehman got the Colonels on the scoreboard with an RBI single. Gavin Mitchell reached on a Logan County error, and two runs came home for a 3-2 advantage.

The Cougars pulled even on Colin Jackson’s RBI single in the 4th before Lewis came through with a single to push a run across and give the Colonels the lead for good. Christian County tacked on an insurance run on a Logan County error in the 6th, one of four in the game, for the final two-run margin.

Nolan Young earned the win on the mound with a perfect 5th, and Sebastian Dazey didn’t allow a baserunner and struck out four over two innings to pick up the save. Andrew Mayes got the start, giving up three runs, one earned, with a walk and six strikeouts over four frames.

Landon Gregory took the loss for the Cougars, surrendering four runs, two earned, on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Christian County will look to extend its winning streak on Friday in an 8th-District showdown at University Heights Academy. The teams will then do it again on Monday in a pair of matchups that will go a long way toward determining seeding in the district tournament.
