Going into their matchup with Paducah Tilghman on Monday evening, the University Heights Academy Blazers had won five games in a row. And they were able to keep that streak going with a 7-4 victory on the road.

The Blazers got the scoring going in the top of the first inning with a pair of singles from Cadence Gibson and AJ Hogart that put the team up 2-0. There were a few scoreless innings, but then UHA struck again in the top of the fifth with an RBI groundout by Hogart and an error by Tilghman.

That put the Blazers up 4-0, which was good considering that Paducah Tilghman scored their first two runs of the game in the bottom of that inning. But a trio of singles from Aiden Jones, Jaiden Miles, and Ty Grace put the team up 7-4.

Tilghman scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Blazers’ pitching was eventually able to get the three outs they needed to close out the game.

Ryan Luckey started the game for UHA, and pitched the first three innings while allowing just one hit. Cadence Gibson also had a notable mound appearance for the Blazers, as he was able to come in and finish off Paducah Tilghman with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh.

As for the team’s performance at the plate, Hayden Hunt had three base knocks, while Luckey, Grace, and Cadence and Courtland Gibson each had two. Hogart ended up leading the team in RBIs with a pair as well.

The Blazers will be in search of their seventh straight win in their next game against the Colonels of Christian County on Friday, April 17. First pitch of their game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at University Heights Academy.
