Henderson County Girls Finish 5th at Region Meet

The Henderson County Lady Colonels captured a fifth-place finish at Saturday’s Class 3A Region 1 Meet on their campus.

The Lady Colonels won a pair of individual region titles and automatically qualified for the state meet later this month.

Lilly Clark earned a regional championship in the triple jump with a winning leap of 33 feet, 6 inches. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 1 inch.

Avery Thomson added another regional title for the Lady Colonels by winning the pole vault after clearing 9 feet. Sadie Smith also scored in the pole vault, placing sixth at 7 feet.

Estelle Erbst placed fourth in the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 6 inches, and Paislee Toombs tied for seventh in the event at 4 feet, 2 inches.

Erbst also scored in the throwing events, finishing fifth in the shot put with a toss of 30 feet, 3.5 inches and sixth in the discus at 75 feet, 5 inches. Kaliana Brewer added a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 3 inches.

Callie Burnett led the distance runners with a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter run at 6:01.08. Hazel Erbst finished eighth in the 800-meter run at 2:42.74, while Harper Brewer was 11th in 2:45.48. Anna Forbes placed 11th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 7:03.72.

Alex Rendle finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.48 seconds and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.31.

In the sprint events, Reese Rendle finished 13th in the 100-meter dash at 13.92 seconds, while Brooklyn Gibson was 15th at 14.09. Gibson later placed 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.94. Anna Dieguez was 17th in the 200-meter dash at 32.77 and 12th in the 400-meter dash at 1:20.62.

Anacca Dowell placed ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:15.58 and later finished 12th in the 300-meter hurdles at 1:02.54.

Henderson County’s 1600-meter relay team placed fifth at 4:56.63. The 400-meter relay squad finished seventh in 54.18, while the 800-meter relay team also placed seventh at 1:57.44. The 3200-meter relay team added a seventh-place finish with a time of 11:16.36.

The top two finishers in each event qualify for the Class 3A State Meet on Saturday, May 23, at the University of Kentucky. The next 10 times/distances/heights statewide will also qualify.
