
Hopkins County Central won its third straight and fifth in six outings on Tuesday with a 20-7 victory over hosts McLean County. After winning only one of their first 11 games, the Lady Storm have now emerged victorious in 10 of their last 12 to improve to 11-12 with two games left in the regular season.
Trailing 6-3 in the top of the 3rd, Cassidy Knight jacked a three-run home run to tie the game for the Lady Storm. Hopkins Central then took its first lead on Layla Sorrells’ RBI single in the 3rd, and led 12-6 on back-to-back run-scoring singles from Myleigh Jarvis and Zoey Hibbs.
The Lady Storm rounded out the scoring with seven runs in the top of the 7th, including RBI singles by Emily Ballard, Brinley Stephens, and Cadence Allen. Knight led Hopkins Central at the plate with three hits and three RBI, Ballard finished with two hits and three runs driven in, and Allen and Stephens added two hits and two RBI each.
Kylie Rickard and Ava McCarty each drove in two runs as the Lady Cougars dropped to 5-14, and Kyra Nichols finished 3/3 at the plate.
Sorrells earned the win in the circle, allowing an unearned run on a hit with four walks and four strikeouts over five and a third innings. Hopkins Central will travel to Russellville on Thursday before ending the regular season with a visit from Fort Campbell.
