Caldwell County exorcized a pair of losing streaks on Friday at Lyon County.

The Tigers ended a three-game losing skid this season and stopped a five-game streak to the Lyons by capturing a 12-2 decision in five innings.

Channing Puckett (3-1) tossed a five-hitter and also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in.

Puckett struck out seven and walked one while allowing two earned runs.

David Ginn finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs for the Tigers, who scored five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to put the game away.

The Tigers (11-5) had taken a 3-0 lead with one run in the second inning and two in the third.

Lyon (7-7) got both of its runs in the bottom of the third to get within 3-2.

But Caldwell’s big fourth and fifth innings allowed it to end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule.

Presten Alfred was 2-for-4 and scored twice for Caldwell. Ari Wells went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Mitchell Phelps was 1-for-2 and knocked in two.

Scott Cortner was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Trenden Branch went 1-for-2.

For Lyon, Hudson Phillips was 2-for-3 with a double while Colton Prow went 1-for-3 and drove in both Lyon runs.

Cohen Wiggins and Easton White each singled.

Phillips (2-1), the Lyon starter, suffered the loss on the mound. He struck out six while allowing four hits and walks in three innings.

Lyon has still taken 10 of the last 14 matchups between the two schools. Caldwell leads all-time 92-37.

Caldwell is scheduled to host Crittenden County on Saturday.

Next up for Lyon is a home date against Christian County on Tuesday.
